Shield of Faith

Shield of Faith

Prerequisite: Achieve the rank of Seraphim


Notes:


Accumulative: Knowledge gained in the lower ranks must be retained, and may be tested before advancement to higher ranks.


Repetitive: Some requirements, such as “Light a candle for the poor” are found in multiple ranks. These requirements must be repeated for each rank achieved.


Prayers
Task 1. Help read the post-Communion prayers

  • a. This may be difficult during the church school year, but can be done in the summer months

Task 2. Read the Hours before Liturgy according to your parish schedule

  • a. Many Parishes have a rotational schedule for reading the Hours
    b. You should read the 6th and/or 9th Hours at least four times


Fasting
Task 3. Follow the fasts fully (to the best of your ability)

  • a. Some families may vary their dietary fasting for a variety of reasons. Speak to your parents and Rector about your intended fasting practices.


Charity
Task 4. Tithe to your parish.

  • a. Give extra during Lent and Advent and as you are able.


Scripture
Task 5. Complete the Pentateuch Elective


Service to others
Task 6. Participate in a building or grounds project at your parish

  • a. You may need to ask your parents for help with this


Elective
Task 7. Do 1 of the Electives (in addition to the Pentateuch Elective)

Prayers
Task 1. Read the Psalms at the Tomb between Holy Friday and Holy Saturday for at least one hour

  • a. If your parish does not have this tradition ask your Rector if you can read the Psalms at the tomb following the Good Friday services or before the Saturday Liturgy
  • b. Encourage others to read the Psalms at the Tomb as well

  • a. Some families may vary their dietary fasting for a variety of reasons. Speak to your parents and Rector about your intended fasting practices.


Charity
Task 3. Make a recommendation to your Parish Council for a donation to a local charity

  • b. Present to the Parish Council all of the information about the charity, what they do, who they do it for, what they will likely use the donation for, etc


Scripture
Task 4. Complete the Old Testament elective
Task 5. Talk about the differences between the Masoretic and Septuagint versions of the Old Testament


Service to others
Task 6. Organize an Outreach project for your Parish

  • a. You will have to work with the Parish Council on this


Elective
Task 7. Do 1 of the Electives (in addition to the Old Testament elective)
